Leadership Center’s 2004 Executive Forum, leaders from well-known

Awards:
SUPERMARKET NEWS will present two awards during the FILC Conference.
The first is the National "Retail Excellence Award," which
will be presented at the dinner on Monday evening. The second is the "Community
Service Award," which will be presented at the luncheon on the second
day of the conference. It will honor a retailer who has excelled at community
service.
The FILC is pleased to partner with Supermarket News in honoring those
leaders who are raising the bar in retailing excellence.
The FOOD INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP CENTER (FILC) Leadership Awards.
The FILC's success comes directly from the support of food industry leaders.
They have given generously of their time and made contributions that have
assisted us in developing the next generation of leaders. This award is presented
to an individual or company that has been exemplary in their service and
support over the last year.
Keynote Speaker: Robert G. Miller
Robert "Bob" G. Miller is renowned in the retail food & drug
industry for his leadership at some of America's leading retailers. He
currently holds the title, Chairman of the Board at Rite-Aid, one of
the nation's top drug store chains with sales over $16 billion annually.
Bob started his retailing career in California in 1961 with a chain that
was acquired by Albertson's, where he remained working for 30 years.
He left Albertson's in 1991 as the Executive Vice President of Retail
Operations for the position of Chairman and CEO of Fred Meyer Stores,
where he oversaw the acquisition of Smith's, Ralph's, QFC, and Food 4
Less. Kroger acquired Fred Meyer Stores in 1999 and Bob left the company
to become the Chairman and CEO for Rite-Aid, where he managed and restructured
their debt load, restored investor confidence as well as improved morale
within the company.
A proven leader, Bob Miller has demonstrated a life-long dedication
towards achieving personal and organizational excellence. Bob will share
his thoughts on leadership, his keys to being successful in the retail
industry and the importance of developing a new generation of leaders.
Additionally, he will share his insights on our economy and provide direction
on how to prepare for the challenges of the future.

the minute detailed information regarding the most recent events in the industry.

8:00– Noon Industry Presentations
- Doug McMillon, EVP Merchandising, Sam's Club will share with us
a Sam's Club corporate update, thoughts on the corporation’s merchandising
direction, the benefits of partnering with Sam's and perspectives from
the world's largest retailer on leveraging size, systems and keeping
individual customer relevance
- Tom Rubel, President & CEO, Retail Forward. Retail Forward is
a global management consulting and market research firm specializing
in retailing and consumer products markets. Rubel has over 25 years
of consulting experience within the food and consumer goods industry.
His consulting focuses on the achievement of long-range performance
goals and he does this by aiding in the development of marketing and
operational
plans. His presentation will focus on the long-term market trends and
what companies can do to increase their performance.
- Scott Klein, President & CEO, IRI will share his thoughts on
effective leadership in a world of changing business paradigms and
competition. He will talk about the challenge of leading change management
and infusing a culture that embraces that change
- Pam Powell, Senior VP Customer Service, Albertsons. Fundamental to
the success of Albertson’s is their core belief in celebrating
diversity at every level of the organization. Ms. Powell will share
with us the success of the “One Vision: Many Perspectives” campaign
and how embracing employee diversity can motivate associates and help
grow the bottom line.
- Panel Discussion: "Innovation: Riding the Wave of Market Changes" This
panel will focus on how companies can achieve increased customer relevance
through
community-based initiatives, niche marketing and building a stronger
brand.

- John McKay, Sr. Vice President, NW Gen. Manager, Costco Wholesale
Corp.
McKay, will share his personal insights into the Costco development
plan
and how Costco successfully differentiates itself in a globally
competitive marketplace.
- Phil Bonanno, VP, Training and Content, Management Ventures, Inc.
MVI tracks both the strategic and tactical developments of the 500+ “billion-dollar
retailers” around
the world, and the 110+ geographies in which they operate.
MVI operates research “hubs” in Cambridge, Massachusetts
and London, UK. Bonanno covers domestic channels and retailers as well
as international and Global retailers. He is the author of Selling
Carrefour and Selling Wal-Mart International.
- Supermarket News Panel Discussion: "Retail Technology in the
Age of Global Standards" How companies go to market is fundementally
changed by new technology developments such as RFID and data synchronization.
Globalization is further driving business to develop new ways to communicate
across the industry value chain. Carolyn Walton, Wal-Mart and Gary
S. Herman, VP & CIO, Unified Western Grocers will be joined by
other industry experts to outline how some leading companies are addressing
the challenges
and opportunities.
